Alfredo Gonzalez, of Guttenberg, waltzed into the police station on Wednesday, Oct. 2 to speak with officials from the public safety office, Guttenberg police said. While inside, Gonzalez expressed concern over the lighting of a scented candle, police said.
Gonzalez then called the county's emergency dispatch line, requesting North Hudson Regional Fire & Rescue to the scene, "fabricating the need" for a response from the fire department, police said.
Then, he requested EMS to conduct a mental health evaluation on the person who lit the candle, fabricating concerns to urge even more of an emergency response, police said.
All of the 9-1-1 recordings were gathered and reviewed.
Gonzalez was charged with misusing a 9-1-1 emergency line and making a false public alarm.
But it didn't stop there.
Gonzalez only continued to call 9-1-1 with non-emergency parking complaints, police in Guttenberg said. That's when police arrested Gonzalez on a complaint warrant and lodged him in the county jail.
